“promoting creativity and allowing it to flower in a spirit
of freedom and intercultural dialogue is one of the best ways of
maintaining cultural integrity.” (UNESCO on Arts & Creativity)
The Colour Your Life enrichment programmes are designed to promote
cultural diversity and inclusion within primary schools and aims
to raise young people's standards of achievement in language, literacy
and communication skills and promote independent learning through
the use of the creative arts.
Our programmes use the arts to stimulate awareness, appreciation
and understanding of different African cultures through performance
and project activities.
Our workshops are an enjoyable exploration of dances, musical
rhythms and folksongs from Africa and follow the musical migration
of these instruments to their modern form. Combined with creative
arts and drama the enrichment programme creates a playground of
self-expression for participants to enjoy. They are inclusive and
participatory, tailored to meet the needs of participants and aims
to provide an all-round learning experience.
Our programmes are delivered over the academic school year and
are split into three modules.
We value the input and inclusion of head teachers, class teachers,
pupils and parents in the structure of our programmes so that it
addresses the specific needs of their school.
We are currently developing teachers resource packs in collaboration
with the QCA where teachers can discover African-inspired lesson
plans to use as part of their schemes of work across the curricula.
