Our first project celebrated the turn of the millennium where we
produced a 7-track compilation of original music traveling to three
of the seven countries situated along the Meridian Line/GMT – Ghana,
Mali and the UK. The EP was a collaborative production between producers
and young artists from these countries and facilitated an exchange
of ideas, culture and musical practices and traditions as we all
entered a new era.
Completing The Colour of Life – GMT vol.
1, was a great achievement for COL, receiving critical acclaim
in progressive urban music circles
spanning the UK, Africa, Europe and the US. Being able to learn
from and interact with young people in their own different, yet similar
environments, inspired the team to want to explore further the
issues
that affect global, urban youth communities. The idea that young
people, with different cultures, customs and languages, could communicate
via the universal language of music and express their views and
experiences with people, linked by the same time zone, was a powerful
concept.
To date 1,000 CDs have been distributed to individuals, record
labels, corporations and magazines.
